Our Prepschool

Our Prepschool caters for children three to five years old. Our programme inspires a love of learning and confidence and ensures a smooth transition to school.

Our morning begins with a whanau time, an opportunity to come together and share our stories, waiata and news. We then move to our morning group time splitting into three "Mini Groups" relating to the children's age and stage of development. Each teacher facilitates a planned activity or experience such as maths and literacy skills, cutting and pencil control.  Our older children also focus on getting ready for school with independence and self help skills.

Our lunchtime group is a chance for all the children to come together before lunch for stories, waiata, group games, music and movement. Afternoon group is another opportunity for all of the children to come together and includes music and movement, stories, drama and farewelling the children that leave at 3 pm.

Children are supported and encouraged during free play times to explore, make discoveries, challenge themselves and participate in a variety of learning experiences such as art and creative play, tactile messy play, science and nature, construction, water play and music and movement.

Excursions

We currently have Little Kickers visit our Preschool once per week for older children to take part in if they choose.  Little Kickers is an early childhood programme, run by trained coaches and provides children with an introduction to ball skills.

We endeavour to go on monthly excursions into our local community to visit schools, the beautful Merchiston gardens closeby and the local shops and library.  We also plan to do two bus excursions per year further away to places such as Willowbank etc.
